“Jautrais pāris” 60th anniversary

Jautrais Pāris (Folk Dance Group)

 "Jautrais pāris" 60th anniversary

Foto of current and past dancers
On May 8, 2010 the ensemble celebrated its 60th anniversary with a performance, dinner, and dance at the Latvian Community Center of Indianapolis. The performance featured the ensemble’s children’s group with 20 dancers, the youth/young adult/adult group with 30 dancers, and the senior group, “Jautrais solis,” with 12 dancers. The Indianapolis Lithuanian Folk Music Ensemble “Biru Bar” accompanied several of the dances and provided dance music later in the evening. The audience of nearly 250 included many former dancers – from central Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York, Massachusetts, Minnesota and California. After the performance a group picture was taken of all current and former dancers. A buffet dinner, raffle, and dance followed. An exhibit of “Jautrais pāris” memorabilia – posters, performance programs, newspaper articles/photos, honorary certificates, T-shirts, pins – was displayed in the Riga Hall. Attendees could also purchase copies of the “Jautrais pāris” 50-Year History publication and the 60th Anniversary Memory booklet. Official group photos from previous years – magnified and placed on poster board – were displayed in chronological order on the walls of the National Hall. Decorative Latvian ornamental symbols cut out from orange and white art paper hung gracefully from the ceiling of the hall. The stage scenery featured two tall, Latvian ornamental ‘sun posts’, each with a round, illuminated yellow-orange piece in the middle, reminiscent of Baltic amber.
The “Jautrais pāris” 60th anniversary DVD....

The “Jautrais pāris” 60th anniversary DVD features:

  • Photos of “Jautrais pāris” over the last 60 years – in rehearsals, performances, song and dance festivals, previous anniversary events, at the Latvian Center Garezers. Each photo has a caption indicating year, place, and event. Favorite folk dance melodies accompany the photo show. The first two melodies are recordings from 1950, played by the ensemble’s first accompanist on accordion – Jānis Melbārdis.
  • Video of the 60th anniversary dance performance
  • The ensemble’s ‘official’ group photos from previous years that were displayed around the walls of the hall at the 60th anniversary
